Name: Serena Marianne Harper Age: 21 Gender: Female
Height: 5'7 Weight: 44kg (6st.13lbs) Appearance:
Before and after. Serena Harper was once an elegant and beautiful young lady that always had her make up applied, that always wore fancy dresses and wore a extravagant complexion on her face, but that all changed when her father died and her fiance was transported to the other side of the world.
Now a poor woman that gets covered in fish guts every day, she has lost her complexion, her face has sunken and her hair droops down her face as a symbol of her misery. She is still attractive, but now she is just your average 19th century 21 year old.
Personality:
Serena has been hurt over the last few years of her life and her personality shows that. Once a girl who was happy and in love is now a girl full of anger and revenge. She knows how to kill and has been through way too much to be able to be called completely sane.
She doesn't display her insanity too often, because of the fact that she keeps her feelings bottled up, but since Edward (see 'History') was transported no one has shown compassion towards her or offered to talk about how she's feeling.
Serena has learned to be strong and how to defend herself in the big wide world, but sometimes being strong isn't enough to conquer 'the man'.
Wealth Status: Poor Occupation: Guts and sells fish at the market. Personal Possessions: The clothes she wears everyday (a grotty, lace up white dress and a pair of black lace up boots), a blanket that her father wrapped her in when she was a baby and her fathers pocket watch (that she refuses to sell beacause she's scared that her memory of him will dissolve away). Pets: None...unless you count dead fish.
Family: John Harper, her father (deceased) Marianne Harper, her mother (deceased) Edward Williams, her fiance (transported to the other side of the world)
History: When Serena was younger she lived a rather comfortable life being the daughter of a well respected businessman, whom she loved. Unfortunately he became mysteriously ill when Serena was sixteen years old and died slowly within two days. Serena was left all alone because her mother had died giving birth to her and now with her father gone she went into a state of depression, she would never smile, never laugh, she was miserable.
Serena was eventually evicted out of her fathers comfortable home in London, leaving her on the streets. In order to survive she became a pick pocket and stole to keep herself alive.
One day on the streets of London she attempted to steal a fish from the fish market for her supper, this time she failed and was caught by a handsome young fisherman named Edward Williams. Being the nice young man that he was, he saw the state she was in and sympathized with her and took her under his wing.
Edward allowed Serena to stay with him in his small house and Serena began working at the fish markets to earn some money. At age eighteen, Serena was actually happy again, Edward made her happy. They fell in love and were to be married the next year.
Life was fantastic up until their wedding day, where the wedding was interuppted and Edward was accused unfairly by Judge Turpin for associating himself with piracy, which Serena knew wasn't true, but a witness apparently saw Edward speaking to a stranger at the fish market and that's all Judge Turpin needed to hear, he was sentenced to be transported to Australia for seven years.
Serena entered her depressed state once more, but instead of returning to work at the fish market she became a pirate when she was almost nineteen, moving from ship to ship, disguising herself as a male so the men wouldn't be tempted with their sexual urges. She believed that this was a way she could irritate Judge Turpin, she wanted to cause that man as much pain as possible and the way she saw it was, no matter how much trouble she caused, Judge Turpin would always have mess to clean up.
A year of piracy continued, Serena had killed men, Captains of ships that discovered that she was a female mostly. Although that sometimes satisfied her anger, it just wasn't enough. She needed to gain revenge on Judge Turpin, the man that had sent the man she loved away, so she sailed back to London and has ever since been biding her time at the fish market, until the oppurtune moment approaches.
Participate in the story of Sweeney Todd? Yes. Seeing as Sweeney and Serena can relate.
